Messing with gamebooks
So growing up, I really did love the Choose Your Own Adventure books; I liked reading already and the idea of books with branching paths and reasons to keep reading was amazing to me. But somehow I never found out about any other books like that specific series.
Well some years ago, I did find out that yeah it’s a much bigger world then I knew, that there’s ones where you use pen, paper, and dice. And I did briefly check some old stuff like the digital copies of Lone Wolf on ProjectAon, even got the first Fighting Fantasy book. But they never quite clicked for me.
Well, I finally gave Lone Wolf another chance, and damn that first book is good. I think I just needed it in print. I really loved that it gave me so many opportunities to just avoid combat, I loved sneaking around, running for my life. The art is a whole mood too, I enjoy seeing the weirdos in this world when they pop up. Also I noticed that there’s definitely areas I haven’t even touched after a play through, I’ll have to explore it again sometime to see what I’ve avoided.
There was one instant death choice I came across, which isn’t really something I like in any sort of game, but at least I was pretty sure I was making a dumb choice and just wanted to see if it was possible to survive.
I’ve done a good chunk of the second book already, which is really upping the amount of weirdos and assholes, so yeah I’m enjoying it too.
